CMHHK becomes Chinese medicine teaching hospital for HKBU, CUHK and HKU

The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) signed collaboration agreements on 9 September with Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) under which CMHHK will serve as the teaching hospital for the three universities, establishing a close partnership to promote the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. 

At the signing ceremony, Mr Wong Kwai-huen, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited; Professor Li Min, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine at HKBU; Professor Lin Zhixiu, Director of the School of Chinese Medicine at CUHK; and Professor Victoria Wong, Associate Dean (Clinical Affairs) of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU and Director of HKU Health System, signed the collaboration agreements.

Witnesses to the ceremony included Professor Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health; Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU and representative of CMHHK; and Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU. Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary of HKBU, and Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Hospital Chief Executive of CMHHK, also attended the event.

Professor Lo said, “Today, CMHHK becomes the Chinese medicine teaching hospital for the three universities, which marks a significant milestone in the development of Chinese medicine services, training and education, and scientific research in Hong Kong. I expect CMHHK and the three universities to create synergy in providing better Chinese medicine services for members of the public, as well as fostering training and education, and scientific research and innovation in Chinese medicine.”

Chinese medicine experts from the three universities will participate in the clinical services of CMHHK and jointly formulate clinical standards and guidelines. CMHHK will provide local clinical placements and advanced training opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates. It will also integrate the research capabilities of the universities to foster Chinese medicine scientific research development, and strengthen its cooperation with counterparts in the Chinese Mainland and overseas through the international academic networks of the three universities.
   
HKBU is the contractor of CMHHK and it has established HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited as the operator. CMHHK will commence services in phases starting from December this year.
