Professor Xavier Wong Hoi-leong, Professor of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of Chinese Medicine, has received a Healthy Longevity Catalyst Award (Hong Kong) 2025 launched by the Research Grants Council (RGC) and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), securing research funding for his project titled “Investigating the impact of exercise-inducible metabolites on physiological ageing”.
Professor Wong will investigate the anti-ageing potential of the exercise-induced molecule produced during muscle metabolism in the context of physiological ageing. He will also assess the impact of molecule treatments on age-related functions, such as physical performance, cognitive ability, and cellular ageing. The study aims to provide a potentially applicable and feasible therapeutic strategy to mitigate senescence-related pathologies and the ageing process itself.
RGC has collaborated with NAM in the US to offer 10 Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards (Hong Kong) each year since 2022. It aims to call for bold and innovative ideas from any discipline that have the potential to extend the human healthspan. Each award includes a maximum cash prize of HK$389,000 awarded over a period of 12 months.
