Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its establishment in 2026. To commemorate this memorable milestone, the University has organised the “HKBU 70th Anniversary Logo and Slogan Design Competition” with the aim to inspire creativity, bring the HKBU community and its friends together, showcase the HKBU spirit, and celebrate its long tradition of education excellence.
The competition includes two categories: Logo Design and Slogan Design. The entries focus on the theme of “HKBU’s 70th Anniversary” and reflect the University’s vision and mission. The Competition received an enthusiastic response, with over 600 entries from HKBU students, alumni, staff, and the general public.
The Competition’s judging panel was led by Mr Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, and comprised representatives of the University community including Council members, the President and Vice-Chancellor, deans, alumni, staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as representatives from the Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University. Based on criteria such as creativity, originality and relevance, the judging panel selected the top three entries from both the Logo Design and Slogan Design categories. After thorough discussion and assessment, they selected one Grand Award winner and two finalists from each category. Please see the Appendix for the list of winning entries.
At the award presentation ceremony held earlier, Dr Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, said, “These outstanding entries are the most thoughtful gifts for the University’s 70th anniversary. Not only will they become an important symbol for our journey towards a new milestone, but they also embody our shared vision for the future. Taking this opportunity, we will actively support the ‘Study in Hong Kong’ advocacy of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, attract outstanding students from around the world to Hong Kong to fulfil their dreams, and strive for HKBU’s future together.”
Mr Paul Poon, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU cum Chairman of the judging panel, commended the participants for their creativity and outstanding work, igniting rounds of enthusiastic discussions during the adjudication process. He said, “The entries were exceptional, which made choosing the best works challenging. These works showcased the incredible talent within the HKBU community and its supporters.”
The winning entry of the Logo Design grand award was designed by Mr Leung Wai-yin. Mr Paul Poon said, “The logo expresses vividly HKBU’s vibrancies in teaching and learning, research and humanities. The colourful lines represent HKBU’s seven faculties and schools and communities on campus. The dynamic curves signify the University’s spirit in pursuit of excellence persistently. The overall design connotes HKBU embracing a future full of opportunities and with boundless possibilities.”
The winning entry of the Slogan Design grand award, “Act with Faith, Create the Future” (篤信七十載 力行創未來), was created by Mr Wong Wei-lung, a HKBU staff member. “The slogan is neatly structured and succinctly echoes HKBU’s motto of ‘Faith and Perseverance’ since its establishment, with a strong dedication to education, research and service to the community to create a future characterised by progressive innovations,” said Mr Paul Poon.
HKBU will organise a series of celebration activities to commemorate its 70th anniversary starting next year. The latest information on the celebration activities will be available on the “Hong Kong Baptist University 70th Anniversary” thematic website (https://70.hkbu.edu.hk/en.html).
